- The Union must get at least 30% of employees to sign a card to request an election.
- The Union can tell you almost anything to get you to sign that card – even if it’s not true.
- You may have no recourse if you signed a card based on the union providing you false information.

The Union Can Almost Tell You Anything – Even if it’s Not True!
- “The signing of the union authorization card is only to get more information” – NOT TRUE
- “If you don’t like the union, you can just vote us out” – NOT TRUE
- “Everyone else has already signed a card” – NOT TRUE
- “You must sign a card to attend a union meeting” – NOT TRUE
- “If there is an election, you must sign a card to vote” – NOT TRUE
- “If you change your mind after you sign the card, just ask for the card back and we must give it back” – NOT TRUE
- “We guarantee that we can get you more pay and benefits” – NOT TRUE. Ask them to put their guarantee in writing and see what they say. If they’re unwilling to do so – ask them Why?
What Signing that Card Could Mean to You and Your Family!
- A signed union card is a legal binding contract between you and the union.
- Signing a card could lead to making the union your legal exclusive representative at work.
- Signing that card can commit you to union membership and the union’s Constitution and By-laws.
- In closed shop States, the Company may be required to fire you if you refuse to pay the union.
- If at least 30% of the employees sign a card, the Company may be required to provide the Union with all your personal contact information – even if you object.
